Machon Maayan 2018-2019

Why did you choose to attend Machon Maayan?

I chose to attend Machon Maayan because it’s a place where everyone is accepted for who she is. The girls here are some of the most genuine and sweet people that I know. Machon Maayan doesn’t try to fit you into the mold of “the ideal seminary student,” but they help each one of us grow into the unique Jew that we want to be.

I also surround my life with music and there are so many outlets for creativity here. This year, I am taking music courses at the college that we share a campus with and I enjoy every second of it. The teachers here are very devoted to us and are always open to meeting and discussing issues that we have. If don’t understand something, they will keep helping you until you do.

What’s on your bucket list?

I really want to go to all of the Seven Wonders of the World. I’ve already been to the Aztec Pyramids, so one down and six to go!

Who is your favorite character in Tanach? Why?

My favorite character in Tanach is Yehudit. She didn’t let her fate be sealed by the Greeks. Yehudit said to herself, “No, I’m not going to let them win. I have to risk my life in order to save the Jewish people.” So when she saw an opportunity to do so, she went for it. This completely changed the Jews’ reality and made the other Jews see the strength that they had within themselves. She teaches me that sometimes in order for miracles to be accomplished, we have to take the step forward, and not wait for G-d to save us.

What’s your favorite class at Machon Maayan?

My favorite class at Machon Maayan is Mishlei. Rav Solomon has so much passion and heart about what he teaches about that it brings tears to my eyes each class. In that class, he teaches us the tools to be the better versions of ourselves.
